| Simple Malaysian Kampung Houses |
The traditonal houses in the Malaysian kampung (villages) are fast giving way to the modern terrace houses,
semi-dettached, independent bungolows and appartmets due to rapid development projects taking place since the Independence Day.
Fortunately there are some which escape the big arms of development, still standing tall in the kampungs.
The designs of these houses are to a great extent influenced by the neighbouring countries where many of the village dwellers originated. The northern states are influenced by the Siamese (Thai), Javaese and Ache. The east coast mainly by the Siamese. The southern states are influenced by Sumatra. The west coast by the Hindi and Sumatra.
Houses in Sabah and Sarawak are mostly long houses, where many families share the same house. The designs of the long houses vary according to individual tribe, therefore there are as many varieties of long houses as the number of the tribes.
