Mango

Unlike other tropical fruits, mango has smooth and soft skin, tender to the touch. But beware the juice on the skin which may cause irritations to those with sensitive skins, especially very young children.
This secretion oozes out from the tip when a mango is freshly plucked from the tree.It is usually harmless,we Malaysians are seldom bothered with it,but there are reported cases where rashes are found on people who come into contact with it.
Wash your hands with detergent, better safe than sorry.
With the introduction of gene technology and advances in agricutural science, many new varieties are added to the mango family, they come in all sizes and shapes nowaday.
Some species look exactly like a red apple from far.Personally I still prefer the good old kidney-shaped green mango.
Mango trees are tall, but new generation mango trees start to bear fruits when they are stll very young and short. The leaves are slender, long and very dense hence it is a favourite choice for house owners who would plant it at back yards and surroundings of the house to provide shades.
Maybe due to this reason mango is not grown in a commercial scale as the durians and rambutan, since almost every house has a mango tree at least, the demand for mango is naturally very low.

The mango fruit is greeenish when still young and is very sour. Many like to eat it sour. The way to eat it is as follows: skin the mango and cut into thin slices.Mix the slices with soya sauce, chilli, sugar and prawn paste.Let it to marinate for few hours to soften and lose some of its sourness, then eat it raw.
Whereas, there are some people prefer to dip the slices in the paste and eat staright away because it will be more crispy and retains most of its sourness.I have the funny feeling around the gum of my teeth even when I'm writting and thinking about it now! Ripen mango is yellowish in colour, it is very sweet and have a pleasant aroma peculiar to it.As mentioned before, some mangoes are red or purple in colour when ripen. The mangoes also have many names like saber-mango,tato-mango,twisted-mouth mango,Luzon-mango and hooked-mouth mango, etc.
Mango slices can be dried, preserved and packaged to sell as titbits.Mongoes also can be prickled whole or in sliced forms.
On a hot day, throw a few slices of mango into a blender and make yourself a glass of ice cool mango juice. It tastes good and is rich in vitamin too.
